MWA was approached by Viewranks Ltd. to submit a planning application for the redevelopment of this site in Isleworth which currently consists of a 2-storey building and warehouse, home to the Royal Mail Postroom Delivery Office. Proposals include the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a new-build mixed-use scheme.
The application site sits on a large plot of land occupying a vast street frontage (55 metres) onto London Road. The existing building has a relatively large footprint, but is low rise. Our general strategy is to reduce the overall built footprint, increase the building height, increase green amenity space and improve the sites relationship with key, adjoining sites.
Due to it's proximity to both Brentford Town Centre and suburban areas, the application site is in a strategic transition zone which makes it optimal for redevelopment.
The design strategy involves the demolition of the low rise existing warehouse building on the site (1); constructing a suburban scale 3 and 4 storey block with a green buffer to adjoining residences and aligned with terraced housing north-west of the site (2); the addition of a taller 6-storey block which reflects the transitional nature of the site, with this block reflecting the greater height found in Brentford Town Centre (3); identifying neighbouring sites for potential revelopment in the future that will facilitate way-finding towards Brentford Town Centre and take advantage of the strategic position/ frontage to the London Road (4 & 5).
