MWA have submitted a planning application for the extension and refurbishment of an existing commercial property on Aylesbury Street in the London Borough of Islington. The project sits within both the Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area and the Clerkenwell Smithfield Area of Special Character.
The façade design is driven from a study of the existing building’s proportions and composition prior to the roof extensions built after 1947. The rhythm and hierarchy of the proposed extensions follow the order found on the existing building, and aim to compliment the wider context of the Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area.
