MWA were approached in early 2019 to prepare proposals for a replacement rear extension with integrated landscape design and full internal refurbishment of this arts and crafts three storey family home situated within the Redington Frognal Conservation Area in Hampstead. The design features geometric square tiles that are bevelled in the centre to subtly create a patterned tiled facade. A modern take on the vernacular architecture within the Redington Frognal Conservation Area.
MWA was approached in early 2016 to prepare proposals for the conversion of two self-contained flats back to their original use as a single family dwelling. Proposals also included the demolition and replacement of a single storey rear extension and creation of external terraces at ground and first floor level. The full refurbishment of this home for a young family aimed to seamlessly reinstate traditional detailing with a contemporary rear extension.
Completed in the 1990s, the house currently occupying this tight, sloped site has fallen into a state of extreme disrepair. This, coupled with poor floor to ceiling heights and issues with damp, prompted our client to commission the redevelopment of the site to provide a new home for their family. Given its location in the Conservation Area, featuring famed examples of modern residential architecture, MWA felt the site could accept a bold architectural statement. The proposed design provides a large contemporary family home set over four floors, including a swimming pool, gymnasium and large open-plan entertaining areas.
MWA are in the process of progressing with a full planning application for an 8,000 sqft family home in Hampstead. The property is not listed but is located within the Fitzjohns Netherall Conservation Area. The existing building is currently arranged over basement, ground, first and second floors. Proposals include a full refurbishment, replacement side extension and full excavation underneath the existing footprint of the building to greatly increase the basement accommodation.
